1,10-Phenanthroline monohydrate is the hydrated form of o-phenanthroline.

Application

1,10-Phenanthroline monohydrate (phen) may be used in the photochemical quantification of Fe³⁺ and total iron in mineral samples. It may be used as starting reagent for the preparation of 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline.

Im Komplex mit Kupfer besitzt es Nuklease-Aktivität, was zur Untersuchung von DNA-Protein-Interaktionen ausgenutzt wird.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Inhibitor von Metalloproteasen; bildet Chelate mit Eisen, Zink und anderen zweiwertigen Metallen. Wirksam im Konzentrationsbereich von 1-10 mM.
