カルシポトリオールは、カルシトリオールまたはビタミンDの合成誘導体です。
カルシポトリオールはカルシトリオール(ビタミンD)の合成誘導体として乾癬の治療に使用されており、薬剤商品名ドボネックスとして販売されています。ビタミンDレセプター(VDR)に対する親和性はカルシトリオールに匹敵しますが、カルシウムの代謝調節における作用はカルシトリオールの1%に及びません。VDRはステロイド/甲状腺レセプターのスーパーファミリーに属し、甲状腺、骨、腎臓など多くの組織や免疫系T細胞で存在が確認されています。T細胞ではカルシポトリオールがVDRに結合することにより、細胞の分化、増殖に関連する遺伝子群の転写が調節されています。
