Descrizione generale

The β-endothelial cell growth factor (b-ECGF) gene encodes an angiogenic factor,[1] and is mapped to human chromosome 11q13.1.[2] Recombinant, human b-endothelial cell growth factor (b-ECGF) is a 14 amino acid N-terminal extension of acidic fibroblast growth factor. It is expressed in Escherichia coli. The 154 amino acid recombinant protein, generated after removal of the initiation methionine, has a predicted molecular mass of about 17 kDa.

Applicazioni

β-Endothelial Cell Growth Factor human has been used:
  • in cell death assay[3]
  • in endothelial cell culture[4]
  • in human umbilical vascular endothelial cell (HUVEC) culture[5]

Azioni biochim/fisiol

β-Endothelial cell growth factor (β-ECGF) is a potent endothelial cell mitogen and its mitogenic activity is potentiated by heparin. β-ECGF stimulates the growth of quiescent HUVEC cells in culture. β-ECGF is associated with lipid and glucose metabolism.[2] This growth factor induces neovascularization in disease conditions. Upregulation of β-ECGF is observed in diabetic retinopathy,[6] and polycystic ovary syndrome.[7] It is also associated with tumor proliferation and invasion. β-ECGF increases fatty acid transport proteins expression to improve endothelial mediated lipid transpor.[6]

Altre note

14 amino acid, N-terminal extended form of human FGF-acidic.

Stato fisico

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 10 mM MOPS, 50 mM ammonium sulfate, 0.2 mM DTT, and 0.2 mM EDTA, pH 7.2, containing 50 μg bovine serum albumin per 1 μg cytokine.

Risultati analitici

The proliferative activity is tested in culture by using quiescent NR6R-3T3 fibroblasts.

Endothelial cell proliferation rate is an important indicator of vascular health. Being able to detect the rate of endothelial cell proliferation, or cell cycle disturbances after intervention is a valuable tool for analysing any beneficial or detrimental effects of treatments
