PTS is a non-ionic amphiphile that can be used to "solubilize" organic molecules in aqueous media. The PTS molecule forms micelles around the lipophilic compounds, allowing them to move into the aqueous phase for effective cross-coupling and metathesis reactions without the need of a co-solvent.
