STX64はステロイドスルファターゼの強力かつ不可逆的なインヒビターです。ステロイド硫酸の加水分解に関与する酵素であるステロイドスルファターゼ(STS)の阻害は、ホルモン依存性乳癌を患った閉経後の女性患者に対する新たな治療法となる可能性があります。エストロンやDHEAはこのスルファターゼ経路で生成し、強力なエストロゲン作用を有するステロイド(それぞれエストラジオール、アンドロステンジオール)に変換されます。STX64(667 coumate)は三環系クマリンのスルファミン酸化合物で、STS活性を不可逆的に阻害します(胎盤ミクロソーム測定系でIC50 = 8 nM)。エストロンスルファミン酸(EMATE)もSTSの強力なインヒビターですが、エストロゲン活性を有します。
