25-hydroxy-cholesterol is a metabolite of cholesterol. It is produced by macrophages.[1]
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is an endogenous steroid hormone secreted by the adrenal gland. DHEA serves as precursor to male and female sex hormones (androgens and estrogens).
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a carbon (C)-19 neuroactive steroid. It is synthesized by the adrenal gland in humans and mammals.[2]
生物化学的／生理学的作用
25-hydroxy-cholesterol represses the production of IgA by B cells, manages the migration of activated B cells in the germinal follicle. It regulates the differentiation of monocytes into macrophages.[1] 25-hydroxy-cholesterol plays a critical role in lipid biosynthesis and immunity. It inhibits sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) proteolytic processing and modulates cholesterol metabolism.[3]
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) regulates neural functions, such as neurogenesis, neuroprotection, neuronal growth and differentiation. It is used to treat multiple sclerosis. DHEA acts as a precursor of sex steroid biosynthesis.[2]
