Work with ease and filter with confidence with Stericup® and Steritop® Filtration Systems.

The Stericup® E and Steritop® E sterile filters are designed as a Greener Alternative for vacuum sterile filtration that significantly reduces plastic and packaging.

This Steritop® E is a 38mm thread collar which uses a 0.22 μm pore size polyethersulfone (PES) membrane filter unit. The 38 mm thread directly connects to our media bottles and majority of other standard commercial media bottles. Use a 45 mm threaded glass or plastic receiver bottle no larger than 2 liters.

Use only glass or plastic bottles designed for vacuum applications.

Applicazioni

For Research Use Only
Stericup® and Steritop® systems are designed to reduce foaming and protein denaturation while maximizing flow and can be used for sterile vacuum filtration of aqueous solutions such as tissue culture media and biological fluids.

  • Tissue culture media +/- additives
  • Buffers
  • Biological solutions

Caratteristiche e vantaggi

Bold product identification on the Steritop® E filter collar plainly displays membrane characteristics, including composition and pore size, for rapid, application-appropriate product selection.

Stericup® E and Steritop® E sterile filters help reduce laboratory environmental impact by significantly reducing plastic and packaging waste. Both attach directly to commercial media bottles, eliminating the plastic funnel while they eliminate contaminants from media and buffers.

Questions

1–10 of 15 Questions
  1. What is the expiration date of Stericup® and Steritop® filters?

    1 answer
    1. Typically 3 years from sterilization.

      Helpful?

  2. The User Guide says “Use only glass or plastic bottles designed for vacuum applications”. Can you specify which bottles are compatible?

    1 answer
    1. Steritop® Quick Release bottle top units require a vacuum-rated receiver bottle with either a GL33 or GL45 mm closure thread as specified. Steritop® E bottle top units require a vacuum-rated receiver bottle with a GL45 mm closure thread. Bottles no larger than 2 L should be used.
      Glass bottles, GL33:
      • Wheaton media bottles (glass), 500 mL (Product Z364886)
      • Wheaton media bottles (glass), 1 L (Product Z364894)

  3. What tubing can be used with Stericup® and Steritop® vacuum filters?

What tubing can be used with Stericup® and Steritop® vacuum filters?

    1 answer
    1. Stericup® and Steritop® filters are fitted with a 1/4” tube adapter. We recommend 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) ID silicone tubing to fit this tube adapter: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/product/mm/xx7100004

  4. Can we filter oil-type liquids with Stericup® filters?

Can we filter oil-type liquids with Stericup® filters?

    1 answer
    1. Likely not, due to pore size/possible fouling/chemical compatibility. Refer to our guide, "Chemical compatibility of filter components": https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/product/documents/302/855/membrane-chemical-compatibility-ds2532en-ms.pdf

  5. What Bacterial Endotoxins Test is used?

    1 answer
    1. The test method used complies with USP 85 and EP 2.6.14 to ensure the absence of endotoxin in our products.

  6. What is the chemical compatibility of the various Stericup® and Steritop® filters?

What is the chemical compatibility of the various Stericup® and Steritop® filters?

    1. Helpful?

  7. What leachables are detected during filtration processes using Stericup® filters?

    1 answer
    1. We have not performed extractables/leachables studies for our Stericup® filters.

      Helpful?

  8. What is the difference between classic Stericup® filters and Stericup® “Quick Release” filters?

    1 answer
    1. Stericup® Quick Release, or “QR”, filters feature a connection between funnel filter and receiver bottle that requires only a quarter-turn release to facilitate funnel removal. These filters come fully engaged – there is no need to tighten before use. The receiver bottle cap has flanges on the top surface to improve grip, as well as a positive lock stop to ensure a leak-proof seal with the receiver bottle. Other improvements include a large, frosted writing surface on the receiver bottle and a lighter cap color to facilitate labelling, more prominent volume markings on the filtration funnel and receiver bottle, and a product label with a peel-off lot record strip on the bag for easy viewing in storage.

      Helpful?

  9. Can Stericup® and Steritop® filters be reused?

    1 answer
    1. All Stericup® and Steritop® filters were developed for single use, disposable processing.

      Helpful?

  10. What is the maximum processing volume for Stericup® and Steritop® filters? Can I add more volume after initial filtration?

    1 answer
    1. All Stericup® and Steritop® filters were developed for single-use application. The maximum volume is dependent on the receiver bottle capacity. Stericup® filters come with a receiver bottle with a specified maximum volume. For Steritop® filters, the maximum recommended volume is 2 L with an appropriate-sized receiver bottle. Larger processing volumes can result in membrane fouling, increase chance of spillage and contamination, and lead to possible airlock*.
*Note that devices with PES membranes can airlock if filtered to dryness. Some liquid must be left on top of the filter, then the system stopped, receiver changed or emptied, and more sample volume added before restart. This increases the chance of spillage.
