Beschreibung

Allgemeine Beschreibung

Thiourea is a chaotrope used together with urea in the IPG strip rehydration to solubilize and denature proteins, and improve the solubility of membrane proteins.

Anwendung

Thiourea has been used as a component of lysis buffer for solubilization of the proteins from tissue samples[1] and T-leukemia cells.[2] It has also been used as a component of sample buffer for placental tissue,[3] leaf proteome, and 2D electrophoresis.[4]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Thiourea is an organic compound and its derivatives have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and insecticidal property.[5] It is actively used in the drug development against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C infection. Thiourea inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme and effectively reduces prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and thromboxane (TXB2) production and is antithrombotic in human platelets.[6] It is cytotoxic to vaginal epithelial cells and may function as potent spermicidal agent.[7] Thiourea based derivatives of anticancer drug sorafenib, eliclits antiproliferative activity in human colon cancer cell line, HCT116 cells.[8]
