The Reflectoquant test strips offer a very simple means of determining iron(II) in surface water, seawater, industrial water, wastewater and mineral water. On the test strip, in acidic solution iron(II) ions react with a triazine derivative to form a red-violet complex that is determined reflectometrically on the RQflex. For a determination of Fe(III) it is necessary to treat the sample with Ascorbic acid first, to reduce Fe(III) to Fe(II).
