アプリケーション
エタンブト-ルは、結核の治療で薬剤耐性の発現を抑えるために他の抗生物質と併用する抗抗酸菌薬です。
エタンブトールは薬剤耐性の発現を減らすため他の抗生物質と併用した結核の治療に使用される抗マイコバクテリア薬です。エタンブトールは多剤耐性結核（MDR-TB）の調査に中国の最も発生率が高いエリアで使用されました。
生物化学的／生理学的作用
エタンブト-ルは、ミコバクテリアの細胞壁に存在するアラビノガラクタンの生合成を阻害することにより、ミコバクテリウム属におけるアラビノシルトランスフェラ-ゼを特異的に阻害します。
エタンブトールは活発に成長しているTB細菌に対して静菌性です。ミコール酸は、アラビノガラクタンのD-アラビノース残基の5'-ヒドロキシル基に付着し、細胞壁にミコリル-アラビノガラクタン-ペプチドグリカン複合体を形成します。エタンブトールは、アラビノシルトランスフェラーゼ、特にMycobacterium（マイコッバクテリウム属）のアラビノシルトランスフェラーゼを阻害し、マイコアクテリアの細胞壁に含まれるアラビノガラクタンの生合成を妨げて細胞壁の透過性を増大させることによってアラビノガラクタン合成を妨げます。
