Allgemeine Beschreibung

Lipid droplets (LDs) are dynamic, ubiquitously present lipid-storage organelles, predominantly present in the adipocytes. Triglycerides, neutral lipids, and cholesterol esters stored in LDs are the largest sources of energy. The presence of excess LDs in adipocytes results in obesity and obesity-linked pathologies such as dyslipidemia and diabetes type.

Anwendung

Lipid (Oil Red O) Staining Kit has been used to stain lipids[1] and adipocytes[2] in samples.

Eignung

This kit is suitable for staining neutral lipids in two 96 well plates, two 6 well plates, or four 100 mm culture dishes.

Prinzip

The Lipid (Oil Red O) Staining Kit is suitable for selective staining and detection of neutral lipids in cultured cells. Hematoxylin included in the kit stains the nuclei of the cells.

  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.   2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. What are the methods for removing red stains from glassware from kit MAK194?

    1. For cleaning glassware from kit MAK194, it is suggested to rinse the glassware with ethanol and then scrub it with warm tap water and soap to remove the red staining caused by the Oil Red O solution. Following these steps with a standard wash in a lab dishwasher should yield optimal results. It's important to note that the longer the solution remains in the glassware, the more difficult it becomes to remove. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare special staining solutions in one-use plastic bottles to avoid this issue.
