BS-I has a major affinity for terminal α-D-galactosyl residues with a secondary affinity for terminal N-acetyl-α-D-galactosaminyl residues.

BS-I is a tetrameric lectin consisting of two types of subunits designated A and B. There are five BS-I isolectins with different subunit composition: BSI-B4, BSI-AB3, BSI-A2B2, BSI-A3B and BSI-A4. BSI-B4 is blood group B specific and has an exclusive affinity for terminal α-D-galactosyl residues, whereas BSI-A4 has blood group A specificity and has a major affinity for terminal N-acetyl-α-D-galactosaminyl residues.
Nota de preparo
Purified by affinity chromatography using the method of Hayes, C. E., and Goldstein, I. J., J. Biol. Chem., 249, 1904 (1974).
Nota de análise
Agglutination activity is expressed in μg/mL and is determined from serial dilutions of a 1 mg/mL solution using phosphate buffered saline, pH 6.8, containing, for each lectin, calcium, magnesium, and manganese at different concentrations. This activity is the lowest concentration to agglutinate a 2% suspension of appropriate erythrocytes after 1 hr incubation at 25 °C.

Plasma membrane and membranous organelles contribute to the physiology of the Eukaryotic cell by participating in vesicle trafficking and the maintenance of ion homeostasis. Exomer is a protein complex that facilitates vesicle transport from the trans-Golgi network to the plasma
Calmodulin is a conserved calcium signalling protein that regulates a wide range of cellular functions. Amino-terminal acetylation is a ubiquitous post-translational modification that affects the majority of human proteins, to stabilise structure, as well as regulate function and proteolytic degradation.
Association with microtubules inhibits the fission of mitochondria in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Here, we show that this attachment of mitochondria to microtubules is an important cell-intrinsic factor in determining cell division symmetry. By comparing mutant cells that exhibited enhanced attachment and

Antibodies have become an established treatment modality in cancer therapy during the last decade. However, these treatments often suffer from an insufficient and heterogeneous response despite validated antigen or target receptor expression in the tumor. In fact, therapeutic success depends
Life is dependent upon the ability of a cell to rapidly respond to changes in the environment. Small perturbations in local environments change the ability of molecules to interact and, hence, communicate. Hydrostatic pressure provides a rapid non-invasive, fully reversible
