Beschreibung

General description

Rotenone is a contact insecticide and a slow stomach poison, extremely potent against many insects. It is widely used against Varroa Jacobsoni mite, affecting colonies of honey bees.

Application

Rotenone may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in raw honey samples and biological samples using different chromatography techniques.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hemmt den mitochondrialen Elektronentransport.

Rotenon wirkt bei Nicotinamidadenin-Dinukleotid (NADH):Ubichinon-Oxidoreduktase hemmend auf den mitochondrialen Elektronentransport. Es wird durch das Exoskelett von Gliederfüßern gut absorbiert, jedoch kaum über die Haut oder den Magendarmtrakt von Säugetieren aufgenommen. Rotenon wirkt als neurotoxisches Mittel, das in Tiermodellen Parkinson-ähnliche Zustände für die Erforschung von Ätiologie und Interventionen hervorrufen kann. Der primäre Wirkmechanismus von Rotenon ist die Hemmung des Komplexes I, gefolgt von der Erzeugung von oxidativem Stress und oxidativen Schäden. Da Rotenon lipophil ist, dringt es leicht in das Gehirn ein, wo es sich an den mitochondrialen Komplex I der Elektronentransportkette (ETC) anheftet und diesen hemmt.
