Immunoglobulin M (IgM) is a highly conserved antibody in vertebrates and is expressed early during development of immune system.[1] It is present as a pentamer in the serum and is secreted by peritoneal B cells.[2]

Specific for Human IgM. No cross reactivity with human IgA, IgD, IgE or IgG.

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Immunoglobulin M (IgM) plays a key role in engulfing the apoptotic cells. The reduction in serum IgM levels leads to increased autoimmune response and a higher risk of infections. IgM exhibits polyreactive and autoreactive functionality.[2] A defect in IgM production is observed in X-linked agammaglobulinemia.[3]
