RO-52 (SSA), also called as tripartite motif-containing protein 21 (TRIM21) is a 52 kDa, ubiquitin E3 ligase.[1] It has a N-terminal RING finger domain (Really Interesting New Gene), crucial for ubiquitination functionality.[2] RO-52 (SSA) gene is mapped to human chromosome 11p5.5.

• as a component of the autoantigen array[3]
• to immobilise protein on the self-assembly monolayer[4][5]
• in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs)[6]

生物化学的／生理学的作用

RO-52 (SSA) is capable of autoubiquitination [7] and uniquitylates p62 protein and regulates redox homeostasis.[1]Patients with Sjogren′s syndrome display elevated levels of anti-Ro/SSA antibodies.[2] RO-52 levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) contributes to pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)[8], systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs),[9] interstitial lung disease (ILD) and connective tissue diseases (CTD).[10] RO-52 is considered as potential target for treating SLE.[8]

Used for the detection and quantification of antibodies to RNPs in rheumatic diseases.
