Potassium fluoride (KF) on activated alumina is a highly reactive catalyst (basic in nature) for various organic reactions. High reactivity is due to the formation of potassium hexafluoroaluminiate, potassium hydroxide and potassium aluminate on the interaction of its fluoride ion with alumina.[1] Celite coated with potassium fluoride is an economical reagent for hydrogen-bond-assisted reactions.[2] Potassium fluoride on basic alumina in acetonitrile with ultrasound has been employed for the deprotection of tert-butyldimethylsilyl ethers of phenols.[3]
