ニタゾキサニドは、ピルビン酸フェレドキシンオキシドレダクターゼ(PFOR)の阻害剤です。近年、複製、非複製状態の両方のマイコバクテリアを殺傷する抗菌薬であることが見いだされました。抗寄生虫薬としてFDAに認可されています(2002年)。また、NTZについて非複製、複製結核菌を殺傷し、明らかな耐性は認められないという内容が、最近の記事(C & EN Sept. 14, 2009, p. 28)でも取り上げられています。
