Microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MiTF) is a basic helix loop helix leucine zipper (b HLH ZIP) transcription factor implicated in pigmentation, and development of mast cells and bone. Mutations in MiTF cause auditory pigmentary syndromes in humans, such as Waardenburg syndrome type II and type IIa, and Tietz syndrome. There are two known isoforms of MiTF, differing by 66 amino acids at the N-terminus. Shorter forms are expressed in melanocytes and run as two bands at 52 kDa and 56 kDa, whereas the longer Mi form runs as a cluster of bands at 60-70 kDa in osteoclasts and in B16 melonoma cells (but not other melanoma cell lines), as well as mast cells and heart. MiTF plays a critical role in the differentiation of various cell types as neural crest-derived melanocytes, mast cells, osteoclasts and optic cup-derived retinal pigment epithelium.

Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are an easily accessible, heterogenous source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that are derived from the neural crest. Evidence suggests that they have neurotrophic qualities in their undifferentiated state and can also be differentiated into
The long noncoding RNA H19 was reported to associate with melanogenesis. However, it remains unknown whether H19 expression will be changed by UVB irradiation and whether H19 will regulate melanocytes melanogenesis by paracrine effects. Here, we analysed the expression changes

The long noncoding RNA UCA1 was first discovered in bladder cancer and is known to regulate the proliferation and migration of melanoma. However, its role in melanogenesis is unclear. In this study, we aimed to explore the role and mechanism

Smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation has been thought to limit the progression of thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection (TAAD) because loss of medial cells associates with advanced disease. We investigated effects of SMC proliferation in the aortic media by conditional
