コラーゲンは進化の過程で高度に保存されており、三重ヘリックス構造に必要な部分である途切れない「グリシンX Y」トリプレットリピートが特徴です。I型コラーゲン（95 kDa）は、骨、角膜、皮膚、腱に存在します。コードする遺伝子の変異は、骨形成不全症、エーラス・ダンロス症候群、および特発性骨粗鬆症と関連しています。この遺伝子と血小板由来増殖因子ベータが存在する17番および22番染色体の相互転座は、隆起性皮膚線維肉腫と呼ばれる特定のタイプの皮膚腫瘍（増殖因子のアップレギュレートされた発現に起因する）と関連しています。

アプリケーション
この抗I型コラーゲン抗体を用いたI型コラーゲンの検出は、 ウェスタンブロット法、IHC（P）、ELISAでの使用が検証されています。
特異性ELISA： 代表的なロットは、ELISAでマウスおよびラットコラーゲンを検出しましたが、ヒトコラーゲンは検出できませんでした。
ウェスタンブロッティング：希釈倍率1:2,000で使用、10 µgのラット皮膚組織ライセート中の1型コラーゲンを検出できます。
