Collagen type VIII α 1 chain (COL8A1) is one of the two α chains of type VIII collagen, which is involved in angiogenesis and artery remodeling. It is the major component of the Descemet′s membrane of the cornea. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 3q12.1.
