Allgemeine Beschreibung

Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a kallikrein-related serine peptidase that belongs to the chymotrypsin subfamily serine protease.[1][2] It was originally found in human semen. PSA is also detected in serum correlated to benign and metastatic disease.[2]

Anwendung

Prostate Specific Antigen Substrate has been used to assay recombinant severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 viral 3-chymotrypsin-like cysteine protease (SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro).[3]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Prostate specific antigen (PSA). It exhibits chymotrypsin-like activity. PSA is the most abundant protease found in the prostate and secreted into the seminal fluid. It is a useful biomarker for prostate cancer. PSA digests the gel-forming proteins semenogelins I and II in semen. It shows antiangiogenic activity in vitro and in vivo.[1]
