Descrição geral

Gastrin is a pyloric antral hormone, which is a small biologically active peptide thatis synthesized as a precursor. It is found to be produced in antral G cells.[1][2]

Aplicação

Gastrin I has been used in a study for gastrin stimulation in rats to determine the expression of histidine decarboxylase and histamine metabolism in gastric oxyntic mucosa during conditions of hypergastrinemia and carcinoid tumor.[3] It has also been used for preabsorption of anti-gastrin antibody prior to immunohistochemical assay in rats.[2]

Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

Gastrin plays a crucial role in the maintenance of architecture and function of oxyntic mucosa of stomach, which is involved in the secretion of acid. It also triggers the secretion of acid into the gastric lumen.[2] Continuous increased plasma levels of gastrin or hypergastrinemia, may be involved in gastrointestinal carcinogenesis, especially if it is accompanied with inflammation.[4] The release of this peptide is suppressed during distention, which is a result of omatostatin and intrinsic cholinergic pathways.[5] In rats, this peptide maintains gastric mucosal integrity through the up-regulation of cyclooxygenase-2 which is, in part, mediated by heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF).[6]

Gastrin and histamine both potently stimulate secretion of acid into the gastric lumen. How these agents interact and how their release is controlled is poorly understood. Therefore, we decided to look for histamine in the antral portion of the rat

It is known that increased gastrin concentration is negatively correlated with cardiovascular mortality, and plasma gastrin levels are increased in patients after myocardial infarction (MI). However, whether gastrin can play a protective role in MI remains unknown. Adult C57BL/6 mice

Gastrin, PGs, and growth factors have important roles in maintaining gastrointestinal mucosal integrity. Cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) are the key enzymes involved in PG synthesis. This study aimed to clarify the mechanisms of gastric mucosal protection by gastrin. Fasted rats

Histamine is an important stimulator of gastric acid secretion. In experimental animals, inhibition of acid secretion by long term histamine2 receptor blockade causes hypergastrinemia, proliferation of enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells, and formation of histamine-producing gastric carcinoids. The aim of this study

To investigate the intragastric mechanisms for regulation of gastric neuroendocrine functions during gastric distention in isolated vascularly perfused rat stomach. Isolated vascularly perfused rat stomach was prepared, then the gastric lumen was distended with either 5,10 or 15 ml pH7

Questions

  1. Hi, I'd like to know how the recombinant rat gastrin (G1276) is made, whether it's synthetic or made in E.Coli etc. Thank you, Keith

    1 answer
    1. This product is a synthetic peptide. The sequence is Glp-Arg-Pro-Pro-Met-Glu-Glu-Glu-Glu-Glu-Ala-Tyr-Gly-Trp-Met-Asp-Phe-NH2.
