(+)-Iron(II) L-ascorbate or ferrous ascorbate has high potential to absorb iron in vivo compared to ferrous sulfate.[1] In children, it is used as an effective oral iron supplement to treat iron deficiency anemia.[2]
Iron-ascorbate (ferrous-ascorbate) is used as a reagent in cell culture and other systems to evaluate various aspects of oxidative stress and anti-oxidation mechanisms.
