Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. Is the 32% NH3 concentration expressed as %w/w?

    1 answer
    1. The concentration is expressed as %w/w.

  4. Is Emplura ammonia solution 32% considered technical grade or higher purity?

    1 answer
    1. This product is considered research grade.

      Helpful?

  5. you say that 28% solution of NH3 is a 56.6% NH4OH for calculating molarity. Can you explain the conversion of 28% to 56.6%? What would be the molarity of a 31% NH3 solution of ammonium hydroxide?

    1 answer
    1. It should be 57.6% NH4OH, not 56.6% NH4OH. Using 17.034 as the molecular weight for NH3 and 35.0494 as the molecular weight weight for NH4OH, the calculation would be: (28 grams NH3/100 grams of solution) X (35.0494 grams NH4OH / 17.034 grams NH3) = 57.6 grams NH4OH per 100 grams of solution, or 57.6%.

To calculate the molarity, the density of a 31% NH3 solution is needed. For the calculation, please note that the weight percentage is for NH3, molecular weight 17.034. (31 grams of NH3 / 100 grams of solution) X (890 grams of solution / Liter of solution) X (1 mole NH3 / 17.034 grams NH3) X (1 mole NH4OH / 1 mole NH3) = 16.2 (16.197) moles NH4OH per Liter. The molarity would be 16.2 M.
