Allgemeine Beschreibung

Neuromedin B (NMB) belongs to the bombesin (BN)-like peptide family in mammals. It is located in the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system.[1]

Anwendung

Neuromedin B (NMB) has been used as a bombesin (BN)-like peptide:
  • for injection in mice to understand energy expenditure and oxygen consumption and CO2 production[2]
  • to study its effects on the thyrotropin (TSH) and prolactin (PRL) release in vitro[3]
  • to analyze its effects on angiogenesis through the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and protein kinase B (Akt) in endothelial cells[4]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Neuromedin B (NMB) exhibits its effects by binding to the cell surface receptors. It facilitates its action on several contractile organs including, the stomach, intestine, esophagus, gall bladder, urinary bladder, and uterus. It also plays a role in food intake, hypothermia, and thermoregulation. NMB is involved in exocrine and endocrine secretion of gastrin, insulin, cholecystokinin, enteroglucagon, and gastric inhibitory peptide.[1] It also acts as an autocrine growth factor in non-small cell lung cancer.[5]

Neuromedin B(NB), a bombesin-like peptide, has been shown to inhibit thyrotropin (TSH) release in pituitary explants of male rats and to stimulate Prolactin (PRL) release in male pituitary cell cultures. We investigated the effect of estrogen status of female rats

The mechanism(s) behind GPCR transactivation of TLR receptors independent of TLR ligands is unknown. Here, GPCR agonists bombesin, bradykinin, lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), cholesterol, angiotensin-1 and -2, but not thrombin induce Neu1 activity in live macrophage cell lines and primary bone

Repeated exposure to stressors was reported to increase the expression of arginine-vasopressin (AVP), especially in corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) neurons co-expressing AVP, within the hypothalamus. This may increase the potential for subsequent stressor-elicited enhancement of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) functioning as these peptides

Autocrine and paracrine signaling leading to stimulation of tumor cell growth is a common theme in human cancers. In addition to polypeptide growth factors such as EGF family members which signal through receptor tyrosine kinases, accumulating evidence supports the autocrine
