一般說明
胆红素是血红素分解代谢的最终产物，通过酶胆绿素还原酶的作用还原代谢前体胆绿素而产生。
應用
使用胆红素作为肌红蛋白、肌酸激酶-MB（CK-MB）和肌钙蛋白-I 体外干扰和稳定性测试的干扰物质。此外，还被用作干扰剂，以测试肝素红试剂盒检测各种肝素的有效性。
生化／生理作用
胆红素是一种活性氧化 DNA 裂解剂，也是一种有效的抗氧化剂，即羟基猝灭剂。这种胆色素同时具有抗氧化性和毒害性。它是血管平滑肌细胞增殖（VSMC）的天然抑制剂。当用于肺/血管疾病的治疗药物时，它显示出抗炎和抗增殖特性。血清胆红素浓度略高于正常水平表示心脏疾病发病率较低。它是心脏移植和 T 细胞介导免疫功能紊乱的治疗药物。
超过99%的胆红素与白蛋白结合运输。胆红素水平异常高会导致严重的神经损伤，但轻度升高与抗氧化应激反应有关。
