5-甲基胞嘧啶是在高等真核生物的DNA中发现的修饰碱基。已知DNA的甲基化参与基因表达的控制,并由一类称为DNA甲基转移酶(DNMT’)的酶介导。适当的胞嘧啶甲基化对于哺乳动物细胞的正常发育和维持至关重要。DNA甲基化模式的改变通常与癌症有关,与正常组织的DNA相比,肿瘤DNA被低甲基化。
特異性
该抗体可识别5-甲基胞嘧啶,但不能识别未甲基化的胞嘧啶。
