Inositol phospholipid species are membrane-bound signaling molecules that have been implicated in almost all aspects of cellular physiology, including cellular growth, metabolism, proliferation, and survival.
Phosphatidylinositol (PI) carries myo-inositol in its headgroup.[1] This phospholipid comprises up to 10% of the lipid of eukaryotic cells.[2]

16:0-18:1 PI (1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoinositol (ammonium salt)) has been used as a component in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs).[3] It has also been sued as a lipid standard in the optimization of the liquid chromatography−mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method conditions.[4]
