04:0 Coenzyme A acts as a source of N-acyl chain in the synthesis of N-butanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (BHL) by LuxI homologue RhlI (VsmI).[2] Butanoyl coenzyme A serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of butyrate, which is involved in maintaining colonic homeostasis and gut health.[3] It also has an ability to inhibit citrate synthase (CS).[1]
