Azioni biochim/fisiol

Programmed cell death protein 1 (PDCD1) plays an important role in the immune regulation by acting as a negative co-stimulatory factor. It suppresses the functions and multiplication of T cells, thereby reducing the release of IL-2 (interleukin-2), IL-10 and IFN-γ (interferon γ). In the presence of tumor microenvironment, PDCD1 along with its ligand modulates T effector functioning, thereby protecting cancer cells from immune-associated rejection. Mutation in this gene is associated with symptoms and progression of multiple sclerosis and susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus.[1][2][3][4]
