Natural Red ist ein kationischer Farbstoff für die Zellkern-Gegenfärbung in der biologischen Forschung. Er dient auch als pH-Indikator in Analyselaboren. Bei der Zersetzung setzt Natural Red Kohlenstoffmonoxid (CO), Kohlenstoffdioxid (CO2), Stickoxide und Chlorwasserstoffe frei. Daher wird dieser Farbstoff als toxisch erachtet und es wird empfohlen, ihn vor dem Entsorgen in aufnehmende Gewässer zu entfernen.
Anwendung
Neutral-Red-Lösung (0,33 %) wird zum Färben von lebensfähigen Zellen und Messen der Zellviabilität eingesetzt. Er wird auch als Komponente von Nährmedium für den Enzymverdau von Ovarial-Medulla-Gewebe zum Extrahieren von Follikeln eingesetzt.
