Glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) is located in most cells in the body but is found in highest concentrations in the liver. Two GPT isoforms, GPT1 and GPT2, are present in mammals.[1]

Anwendung

Glutamic-Pyruvic Transaminase from porcine heart has been used to determine L-lactate levels in aqueous polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions. [2][3][4]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

GPT is responsible for catalyzing the reversible transamination of α-ketoglutarate and alanine to glutamate and pyruvate. It also plays a critical role in the metabolism of amino acids and gluconeogenesis.[1]

Glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) is located in most cells in the body, but is found in highest concentrations in the liver. It is used as a marker of liver disease due to the release of GPT into the blood following liver cell necrosis.

One unit will convert 1.0 μmole of α-ketoglutarate to L-glutamate per min at pH 7.6 at 37 °C in the presence of L-alanine.
