Biochem/physiol Actions
Administration of PMSF produces analgesia unrelated to its anticholinesterase effect, and prolongs the analagesic effect of centrally administered β-endorphin.[4]
Phenylmethanesulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) is a serine protease inhibitor. It binds covalently to active site residue of proteases and prevents proteolytic activity. PMSF is used in cell lysate buffers during protein purification to prevent target protein degradation.[5] PMSF effectively inhibits the naloxone-precipitated withdrawal jumping.[6]

PMSF is a serine protease inhibitor, inhibiting the activity of enzymes such as thrombin, trypsin, papain, chymotrypsin and proteinase K. It also inhibits mammalian acetylcholinesterases.

We would recommend that you use an anhydrous ethanol to further dilute this solution, since PMSF is very unstable in water.
