Sir2是沉默交配型信息调控-2的缩写。Sir2（在哺乳动物中的同系物被称为SIRT1、SIR2L1或Sir2α）是一组密切相关的酶（sirtuins）的名称。在几乎所有研究的生物中都发现了这个家族的成员。研究人员提出sirtuins在生物体′对压力（例如热量或饥饿）的反应中起关键作用，并负责限制卡路里摄入对延长寿命的影响。Sirtuins通过在NAD+存在下从蛋白质上除去乙酰基来起作用。它们因此被分类为“NAD+依赖性脱乙酰基酶”。在哺乳动物中，SIRT1（Sir2的哺乳动物同源物）已显示出脱乙酰作用，从而使p53蛋白失活。
