Phosphatidic acid (PA) is an anionic cellular glycerophospholipid constituting 1-4% of membrane lipids.[1] It possesses a phosphomonoester polar head group and two long hydrophobic acyl chains.[1] NBD PA is a fluorescently labelled lipid with the fluorophore, 7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl (NBD) at the sn-2 fatty acid of PA.[1]

18:1-12:0 NBD PA or 1-oleoyl-2-{12-[(7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]dodecanoyl}-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (ammonium salt) is suitable: for the in vitro enzyme activity assay of galactolipase[2], for NBD-PA and NBD phosphatidyl choline uptake assays[3], to measure lipid transfer specificity of Ups1 mutants[4]
