General description

Recombinant human Bone Morphogenetic Protein‑4 (BMP‑4) is a homodimeric signaling protein expressed in E. coli and supplied as a lyophilized powder for mammalian cell culture research in vitro.

Application

Recombinant BMP‑4 has been used in mammalian cell culture research applications involving stem cell differentiation and lineage‑specific in vitro model systems.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bone Morphogenetic Protein‑4 (BMP‑4) is a TGF‑β family growth factor that mediates cellular responses through SMAD‑dependent signaling. It is involved in diverse physiological processes including development and maintenance of bone and cartilage during both pre- and postnatal life.

Lyophilized with no additives.

Preparation Note

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening.  Reconstitute in 5 mM HCl, pH 3.0 to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml.  Do not vortex.  This solution can be stored at 2-8° C for up to 1 week.  For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20° C to -80° C.
