Opis ogólny

CXCL13 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 13) is a small molecule cytokine and a B cell chemoattractant. It is a member of the chemokine family. CXCL13 is expressed in secondary lymphoid organs and the central nervous system (CNS). It is located on human chromosome 4q21.

CXCL13 binds to its receptor, CXCR5 and modulates the movement of several types of white blood cells. It helps in the liberation of cytokines, which initiate humoral reactions and transport B lymphocytes and plasma cells into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CXCL13 plays a major role in the initiation and progression of Lupus nephritis (LN).
