Opis ogólny

Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 3 (PDK3) is part of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC). PDK3 is highly expressed in testes. PDK3 is mapped to human chromosome Xp22.11.

Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 3 (PDK3) is recruited by pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) as dimers. Site specific phosphorylation of PDK3 along with pyruvate dehydrogenase complex components, is crucial for their tissue distribution and functionality. PDK3 expression is enhanced by hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1α) in cancer cells, making PDK3- HIF-1α as a potential target for treating melanoma. Missense mutation in the PDK3 gene is implicated in the peripheral nerve disorder, Charcot−Marie−Tooth (CMT) neuropathy.
