Cardiolipin is an anionic phospholipid located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It constitutes 20% of total lipids. The non-bilayer has four acyl chains and a small head group.

Cardiolipin plays a vital role in the organization of membranes and cell division. It regulates the proton uptake pathway.
