3,4,7,8-Tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline is a metal-chelating agent. It acts as ligand and forms dinuclear Cu(II) hypocrellin B complexes[1]. It also forms tetraaqua(3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-kappa2N,N′)zinc(II) thiosulfate complex with zinc[2].

3,4,7,8-Tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline was used in the synthesis of heteroleptic cationic Ir(III) complex, 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-bis[2-(2′,4′-difluorophenyl)pyridine]iridium(III) hexafluorophosphate[3].
