Miro interacts with the kinesin-binding proteins GRIF-1 and OIP106 forming a link between the mitochondria and the trafficking apparatus of the microtubules. Miro1 and the kinesin adaptor Grif-1 play an important role in regulating mitochondrial transport in neurons. Miro1 is a calcium sensor for glutamate receptor-dependent localization of mitochondria at synapses.
