Is the KSOM (MR-121-D) sufficient for embryo culture to the blastocyst stage on its own? In the literature, papers mention using "KSOM supplemented with amino acids." I observed that MR-121-D indicates it has "half amino acids." Essentially, I am trying to understand if individuals are adding extra amino acids to this media, or if the 1/2 amino acids already included are what they are referring to when they say "supplemented with amino acids."

KSOM (MR-121-D) is indeed sufficient for embryo culture up to the blastocyst stage. It is a 1X liquid solution with 1/2 amino acids and Phenol Red. When scientists reference KSOM with 1/2 amino acids, that is the intended composition, and they do not add the remaining 1/2 amino acids.

According to documented literature and the mentioned article, KSOM has been shown to support a high yield of mouse blastocysts capable of developing into fetuses after transfer to surrogate mothers.
