ASF1a (anti-silencing function 1a) is a histone H3/H4 chaperone and chromatin regulator. This protein facilitates histone placement and histone removal and exchange during nucleosome assembly/disassembly and is essential for the formation of senescence-associated heterochromatic foci (SAHF). ASF1a interacts with chromatin assembly factor 1 (CAF-1) to promote replication-dependent chromatin assembly and with HIRA inside PML bodies of cells approaching senescence after p53/p21 activation.

Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) is the key mediator of antibody diversification in activated B-cells by the process of somatic hypermutation (SHM) and class switch recombination (CSR). Targeting AID to the Ig genes requires transcription (initiation and elongation), enhancers, and its
H3.3 is an ancient and conserved H3 variant and plays essential roles in transcriptional regulation. HIRA complex, which is composed of HIRA, UBN1 or UBN2, and Cabin1, is a H3.3 specific chaperone complex. However, it still remains largely uncharacterized how
Histone chaperone ASF1A has been reported to be dysregulated in multiple tumors; however, the underlying molecular mechanism that how the abundance and function of ASF1A are regulated remains unclear. Here we report that ASF1A is physically associated with USP52, which
