GranuCult^® plus DEV Lactose peptone broth is suited for the enrichment and determination of the titer of coliform bacteria in the bacteriological analysis of water according to the German standard methods for the examination of water and the previous German regulations from 1990.Casein peptone and soya peptone provide nitrogen, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids for growth, while sodium chloride ensures osmotic balance. Lactose is a carbohydrate source. The pH indicator bromocresol purple is yellow below pH 5.3 (acidic) and purple above pH 6.7 (alkaline). The fermentation of lactose and the consequent acid production changes the color of the medium to yellow.
