原核和真核蛋白质合成抑制剂。类似于氨酰tRNA的氨酰腺苷酸末端相似的核苷,与大核糖体亚单位的“A位点”竞争结合。其掺入生长中的多肽,导致链延伸终止和新生多肽基嘌呤霉素的释放。用于选择表达转染pac基因(白黑链霉菌)的哺乳动物细胞系,其产物嘌呤霉素乙酰转移酶通过乙酰化使药物失活。诱导胸腺细胞和HL-60白血病细胞内DNA断裂。与放线菌酮一样,嘌呤霉素也被用作多种细胞分析中的通用蛋白质合成抑制剂。
嘌呤霉素二盐酸盐,CAS 58-58-2,是一种氨基核苷抗生素,通过阻断翻译步骤抑制蛋白质合成,并引起新生多肽链过早释放。
