General description

Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s medium (DME) is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME), which has a four-fold higher concentration of amino acids and vitamins along with additional supplementary components. The first original DME formula was reported to culture embryonic mouse cells comprising 1,000 mg/L of glucose. An alteration with 4,500 mg/L glucose is optimal in cultivating certain cell types. DME has been shown to improve the stability of the medium.

Application

Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s medium-low glucose has been used to culture:
  • living colon cancer SW620 cells
  • human breast carcinoma cell lines MCF-7(13), KPL and MDA-MB-231
  • mammal and canine derived adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells

Reconstitution

Supplement with 0.584 g/L L-glutamine.

Other Notes

Investigators who work with stem cells or cell clones frequently prefer media without phenol red.

Photobiomodulation-based (LLLT) therapies show tantalizing promise for treatment of skin diseases. Confidence in this approach is blighted however by lamentable inconsistency in published experimental designs, and so complicates interpretation. Here we interrogate the appropriateness of a range of previously-reported treatment

Listeria monocytogenes hijacks host actin to promote its intracellular motility and intercellular spread. While L. monocytogenes virulence hinges on cell-to-cell spread, little is known about the dynamics of bacterial spread in epithelia at a population level. Here, we use live

Cyclic di-3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (c-di-AMP) is a broadly conserved bacterial second messenger that has been implicated in a wide range of cellular processes. Our earlier studies showed that c-di-AMP regulates central metabolism in Listeria monocytogenes by inhibiting its pyruvate carboxylase (LmPC)
