Azioni biochim/fisiol

Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 (MEK1) is a hydrophilic non-receptor protein kinase that shows ubiquitous expression across different cell types. It serves as a critical component of the RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK signal transduction cascade, also known as the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade. This signaling pathway plays a crucial role in regulating various biological processes, including apoptosis, cell cycle progression, cell migration, differentiation, metabolism, and proliferation. Additionally, MEK1 protein contributes to the development of the extra-embryonic ectoderm during placentogenesis. Somatic mutations in the MEK1 gene have been observed in individuals with melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

Vav1 is a signaling protein required for both positive and negative selection of CD4(+)CD8(+) double positive thymocytes. Activation of the ERK MAPK pathway is also required for positive selection. Previous work has shown that Vav1 transduces T cell receptor (TCR)
