Maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase (MELK) is a conserved serine/threonine kinase involved in a variety of cellular functions, including proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Its levels are elevated in a number of tumour types and it may be a prognosis marker for some cancers.
