Description générale

Phenol can be obtained via a two-step process involving the oxidation of toluene by atmospheric oxygen, in the presence of cobalt catalyst to form benzoic acid as the major product, which is followed by the decarboxylation of benzoic acid in the presence of air and copper catalyst. It mostly serves as an important chemical intermediate in the manufacture of synthetic organic materials.
