Description générale

Thymopentin (TP5) is a pentapeptide produced by the epithelial cells of the thymic cortex and medulla. It consists of thymosin α1 (Tα1).[1]

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Thymopentin (TP5) is an immunomodulator, resembling the active site of the thymopoietin. TP5 stimulates cellular immune responses such as T-cell formation,[1] natural killer (NK) cell and macrophage activation,[2] generation of cytokines, and activation of B-cell for antibody production. It also mimics the polypeptide environment of the thymus.[1] TP5 is used to treat conditions like immune deficiency, autoimmune diseases, infections, and cancers. It has a short half-life and is rapidly metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract.[3]

Splenopentin (SP-5, Arg-Lys-Glu-Val-Tyr) and thymopentin (TP-5, Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr) are synthetic immunomodulating peptides corresponding to the region 32-34 of a splenic product called splenin (SP) and the thymic hormone thymopoietin (TP), respectively. TP was originally isolated as a 5-kDa (49-amino acids) protein
